Emerging Artist Gallery

The Arts Center is very excited to announce its Emerging Artist Gallery as part of the NN Arts Gallery. This Gallery will feature bi-monthly shows which will highlight the work of one or more emerging artists. Each new show will feature pieces in 2D and 3D visual media in a variety of sizes, mediums, and styles.

This Gallery will be curated by Kayla Payne. Kayla is a 2020 alum from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor's in Art & Art History where she focused on printmaking, painting, and drawing.
In 2021, she was a Pop-Up Resident at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond where she and fellow residents showed their work for the “Where the Pieces Fall” exhibition. Currently, she is illustrating and working on comic books as well as the Curator for the Emerging Artist’s Gallery in The Arts Center.
First Impressions Showcase
If words couldn’t express yourself as an artist, what piece of work would? As a maker of visual pieces, how could a passerby make a first impression of who you are without needing to say a word?
For the Montross Art Center’s grand opening, 5 artists have chosen work to introduce themselves to the Northern Neck.
SUMMER ESCAPE EXHIBITION
A Photo Series by Jahania Wilkins
Aug 5-Sept 25

For this show, the theme of “summer escape” was best described by Jahania’s photographs that capture tranquil, vibrant, and overlooked moments most may pass by without another thought. Summertime can be for vacations, but Jahania’s landscape photos also show that it’s a time for pause and reflection, another form of escapism. Taken on her phone, these photos show how sometimes, at any time, you could be in the right place to capture something special.
Jahania Wilkins is a Westmoreland County resident where she is also raising her family. She loves capturing the unique beauty of the county, may it be on her phone or camera. This hobby turned into a passion as she realized how, when you take the time to slow down, you can look and see the beauty in everything.

Summer Escape will be up until September 25, 2022. This exhibit is a part of the Emerging Artists Gallery. If you’re interested in potentially getting your art shown, please contact EmergingArtsNNK@gmail.com for more info.
