ARTIST CHRISTIANE SANFORD

Christiane’s life experience as a military dependent became significant to her creative path. The most important formative years living in Morocco and Spain provided a lot of influence in her work as she was exposed to the wonderful art, architecture, mosaics and frescoes of those countries.
Christiane’s creativity emerged in early childhood. Since then, she has worked in many different mediums over the years, but especially loves inventing frescoes on wood using mixed media -inspired by starry night skies and night gardens. Using Swarovski crystals to evoke the stars, she works without preconception and prefers to let the work take her in the direction it needs to go.
Her “Correcting Art” uses typewriter correcting film (used before typewriters had auto correct) with mixed media.
She also has enjoyed sculpture and has worked with wood, stone and clay. Several pieces of clay are on display.
She attended invitational shows such as the University of Richmond Arts Around the Lake, Bethesda Arts Festival, and donated a piece for the Corcoran Invitational Auction Benefit. Her work is in many private homes in the area and abroad.
